Pittman Birth Story
All births are different. And, equal to that, all mothers are different. Every birth story has its ups and downs, and sometimes the outcome is not what was planned, but the common thread is a mother who is trying so hard to birth a happy, healthy baby.
All things considered, the Pittman birth story is one of the most unusual that I have had the pleasure to be a part of. Check out the photos below and read a bit of their story.
On-Call
I had been on call for the Pittman’s for about three weeks. They were delivering with a midwife at home, and they had informed me that her babies were usually late, so I was fully expecting to be on call for an extended period of time.
I finally received a call one evening that labor had started. At this point, they reminded me that her labors were usually long, so they likely wouldn’t need me to come until the early hours of the morning.

At any rate, when I hung up with them, I went to dinner with my husband. After that, as I arrived home, I received a second, more urgent phone call, letting me know that labor was getting more intense and I should come now.

On the Way
Consequently, when I left, I was a little bit stressed. They were located more than an hour from me, and it sounded like labor was progressing much quicker than they had anticipated. Obviously, the whole drive I was nervous that I was going to miss the birth of the baby.

I finally arrived at the Pittman’s home. They had asked me to call upon arriving so that they could let me in. I called, and much as I’d feared, their daughter had been born about 3 minutes before I arrived.
New Baby
When I finally made it into the room, Mom was sitting peacefully in the birth tub with her brand-new baby. Even the midwife had not arrived yet! She had delivered the baby all on her own, with just the assistance of her husband.

When the midwife arrived, the placenta was delivered and both Mom and baby made their way to the bed to relax together, skin on skin.

The whole process was peaceful and calm and reminded me why some people choose to have their babies at home.
